President's Message
Greetings. I am Hong Moon Sohn, President of the Korean Geriatric Spine Research Society.
It is an infinite honor to assume the important responsibility of the geriatric spine research division that will lead the new leap forward of our Society, and I extend my deep gratitude to the members of the Korean Society of Spine Surgery for granting me the honorable opportunity to serve as President.
Our society is entering a super-aged society at an unprecedented pace. At its center, 'spinal health' is a key factor that determines quality of life in old age. Through the dedicated efforts of our senior colleagues and members, the Korean Society of Spine Surgery has played a pivotal role in research on geriatric spinal disorders and trauma. The Korean Geriatric Spine Research Society has now been newly established with the aim of researching and advancing the geriatric spine field in greater depth within the Korean Society of Spine Surgery.
During my term, I intend to focus on the following three priorities.
1. Strengthening multidisciplinary research: Through active exchange and academic activities not only with orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery but also with rehabilitation medicine, internal medicine, and basic medical science, we will present integrated guidelines for geriatric spine treatment.
2. Fostering young researchers: In an aging society, spine surgeons themselves are also aging. We will establish an academic foundation on which the next generation of researchers can fully realize their potential, and we will spare no support.
3. Holding joint academic events with other research societies of the Korean Society of Spine Surgery: By holding academic events together with other specialized research societies, we will adopt their accumulated expertise and thereby contribute to enhancing the academic maturity of our Society.
When the wisdom and passion of our members come together, our Society will shine all the brighter. I too will communicate with humility and listen attentively to your voices.
