Inauguration Speech

Esteemed Advisors, Board of directors, and Distinguished Members,

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the esteemed advisors and senior members of the Korean Society of Spine Surgery who have dedicated themselves to the growth of our society over the past 40 years. I would like to express my thanks to the future members who will lead this prestigious society. We are indebted to the leadership of past presidents and the collective efforts of our members, which have propelled us to reach over 1,000 members and attain international conference status.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020, I have witnessed remarkable growth within our society through the exceptional responses of past presidents and members. I would like to offer my special thanks to the immediate past president Dr. Yong-Soo Choi, for successfully organizing the offline international conference, which significantly contributed to establishing our societys international reputation. As I embark on my journey as the president of the Korean Society of Spine Surgery, I feel a profound sense of concern and responsibility.

First and foremost, my primary goal is to establish domestic and international fellowships to nurture young and promising spine surgeons. Additionally, I will make every effort to enhance the academic activities of our society through collaborations with regional chapters and research societies. I am committed to furthering our endeavors and providing support for the inclusion of Asian Spine Journal in SCI(E), which has been a long-awaited project of KSSS journal. Moreover, I will actively promote our society to the general public through platforms like YouTube and establish Webinars as a new academic podium. Most importantly, I will lead the society in a manner that supports the rights and interests of our KSSS members, fostering effective communication with specialized spine hospitals and clinics.

In 2024, the International Congress of the Korean Society of Spine Surgery will celebrate its 40th anniversary. To commemorate the achievements of the past 40 years and prepare for future developments, we will organize celebratory events, and engage in a meticulous planning process to outline the tasks for the next 10 years.

We deeply understand the importance of active participation from every member with diverse experiences and opinions for the progress of our society. Lastly, I would like to emphasize progress has always been made based on members continued interest. Let us now join our hands in unity for the development of the Korean Society of Spine Surgery and the celebration of its 40th anniversary.

Tae-Kyun Kim MD., PhD.
40th President of Korean Society of Spine Surgery
