Inauguration Speech

Respected advisors, fellow council members and members of the Korean Society of Spine Surgery.

I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve in the important position of president of our society, which boasts a long history and tradition of 40 years.

Our society has achieved its current status as an advanced society thanks to the dedicated efforts of many seniors, colleagues, and junior members. However, we are not satisfied with this and believe that we can only continue to maintain our proud society by upgrading the society to the next level through continuous research and innovation.

To this end, I plan to set the following four key tasks and pursue them during my term.

First, we will help the society achieve its long-standing dream through more objective analysis and measures for Asian Spine Journal that are failing to pass the threshold of SCIE inclusion. We will also implement necessary measures to revitalize Journal of Korean Society of Spine Surgery that have been mired in a long period of stagnation and are losing their presence.

Second, although the spring and fall conferences have achieved significant growth in both quantity and quality, in order to solidify our status as a leading conference in the Asia-Pacific region, we need to organize more fruitful programs through close cooperation with the program committee and encourage the voluntary participation and invitation of renowned overseas speakers.

Third, in order to continuously and systematically promote the internationalization project that the society has been pursuing, we established an international committee to involve and actively support mid-career and young members with expertise and abilities to help our society's members develop their capabilities on the international stage.

Fourth, we will make efforts to develop our relationship with HIRA more smoothly than at present and actively support the activities of the insurance committee to protect and promote the rights and interests of our members.

Once again, I will do my best to fulfill the responsibility and role given to me so that I can live up to the expectations and trust of the members who have allowed me to stand in this position.

Thank you.

Jong-Beom Park MD., PhD.
41th President of Korean Society of Spine Surgery
